Tomato Onion chutney with Lentils – Blog Hop Wednesday Week 21

For October Blog Hop Wednesday I am paired with PJ from Seduce your tastebuds. We usually buy this chutney at a super store. A brand named I.D. makes a similar chutney and I am a total fan.

Here is all that you shall need:

2…. onions [sliced.

1… tomato [chopped.

1 tbsp… Urad dal.

3… Dried red chilly.

1 tbsp .. oil.

Salt.

Tempering:

1 tbsp… Oil.

1/2 tsp… Mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp… Cumin seeds.

a pinch of hing.

4-5 curry leaves.

Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a wok.
  2. Fry the dal in ti till it changes color. Remove and keep aside.
  3. In the same oil, add the onions and cook until they are translucent.
  4. Add red chilly, salt and tomatoes.
  5. Once they are nice and mushy.
  6. Remove and let it cool a bit.
  7. In a mixer, add the lentil and coarsely grind it.
  8. Add the onion and tomato mixture to it and grind.
  9. Once done, keep in a bowl and set aside.
  10. In a wok, to prepare tempering, heat oil.
  11. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing and curry leaves.
  12. Add to the chutney mix.
  13. Serve with dosa/idli.
